How do I become an Abingdon Volunteer?
Membership is limited to those that are at least 16 years of age and reside within 3 miles of our response area. If you qualify, follow these steps for applying for membership.
First, print and fill out a membership application. The best time to turn-in your application is on any Monday night between 7pm and 9pm at Abingdon Fire Company, House 1 at 3306 Abingdon Road, Abingdon, MD 21009. You may stop in at anytime to drop off an application, simply ask any member to place your application into the Membership mailbox.
Once received, the Human Resources Department will review your application for completeness and will request a criminal background check. Once a background investigation is completed, your application will be voted on for probationary membership at a regular monthly meeting, held 8pm the third Friday of each month at House 1. You are encouraged to attend the meeting if possible. If accepted into probationary membership, you will begin your formal orientation and be allowed to begin training classes.
