Welcome to the Abingdon Fire Company recruiting website. This site is designed to both inform the public and give potential recruits a snapshot of who we are. We hope you enjoy your visit and if you would like any additional information, please contact us.
Abingdon Fire Company currently has a large need for volunteer responders, particularly in the Edgewood area. A second area of strong need is in support of auxiliary functions, such as delivering refreshments to fire scenes.
AFC is a volunteer fire company, providing Fire, EMS, and Rescue services to the community. Abingdon Fire Company covers over 30 square miles of territory located in the development envelope of south central Harford County, Maryland. AFC provides service to the towns of Abingdon, Edgewood, and Riverside as well as supporting surrounding fire companies through mutual aid agreements. The first due response area of the Abingdon Fire Company is the fastest growing residential and commercial area in Harford County.
In 2007, the Abingdon Fire Company responded to 6,507 emergency calls for assistance. Of these calls 4,788 were for emergency medical service and 1,719 were fire service responses. In a typical year we expend over 17,000 man-hours handling the emergency responses and over 26,000 man-hours are spent on training and administrative duties. All totaled, it takes over 44,000 man-hours to provide our service to the citizens of Harford County.
