Volunteer Life

What can you expect as a volunteer? The only thing that you can expect is the unexpected. There are no standard calls and each day is different when it comes to emergency responses and spending time at the station.

Station Activities

Monday nights are designated as training and clean-up night. On those nights you can expect to help with station or apparatus maintenance and cleaning as well as a selected training topic. The third Friday of the month is meeting night where the business of the Company is conducted. There are many other activities that go on at the station including training classes, tours, pancake breakfast fundraisers, and hosting events in our hall. When there are no events or training sessions being conducted, most members will relax in the TV room, grill food outside, use the computers, or simply hang out in the apparatus bays waiting for the alarm to sound for the next call.

Emergency Responses

What happens when the alarm sounds? Once the address and nature of the call have been given over the radio, decisions are made on how the Company will respond. There are pre-determined responses depending on the type of call. Volunteers quickly put on their gear and get on the equipment for a response. When there is an officer, driver, and qualified crew members assembled the response is made.  Your level of training and experience will determine which apparatus you are cleared to respond on. After the call, you will be asked to help put the apparatus back in service and get it cleaned up for the next call.
